CRICKET RETURNS TO CASTLE GREEN
Bamburgh CCC v Ponteland XI

FOLLOWING excellent work by Eric Nicholson and Billy Wright, Bamburgh Castle Cricket Club has reformed and started to play friendly fixtures on the Castle Green.
On Sunday, in an exciting match, Bamburgh defeated Ponteland in the final over by one wicket. Batting first, Ponteland scored 142 for six in 40 overs, Appleby top scoring with a hard-hitting half century.
In reply, Bamburgh lost early wickets, but a fine partnership of 75 from Stephen Robinson and David Wright brought Bamburgh close to victory. But when Robinson fell for an excellent 47, including one huge six, it looked as if Pont held all the aces.
However, Wright kept his head to complete his half century and steer Bamburgh home to win by one wicket with two balls to spare.
